Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
Parents please understand where this is coming from, I'm a partner to an Adult Survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse... I was on the phone a few minutes ago with another partner and the topic came up about the so called "embarresment" of being a parent to a survivor.
He and I were discussing the problems of being married to an adult survivor and how they are taught to be silenced by there families. His wife's mother has always told her to NEVER talk about her abuse with anyone. He said his Mother-in-Law has repeatedly told him that she is embarresed by what happened in their family. Trying to keep you're children to not talk about what they went through is absolutely the wrong way to deal with abuse. You're children have done nothing wrong and should not be made to feel they have. I assure you they will have a very difficult time sharing their feelings in the future. Trying to make them them not talk about what they went through will for sure send the wrong message to them. The professionals all say the same thing, the only way to move forward is talk about it.
Mommabear and her babybear are a perfect example of how talking about abuse will help. The more open we can be about Childhood Sexual Abuse and its destruction the better prepared we will all be to help other survivors. Silence breeds silence and also makes a survivor feel they have done something wrong !!!

Being a partner to an adult survivor is obviously different then being a parent. However I truly believe the more we try and silence our loved ones from talking about abuse the worst it is for them. Congratulations to you on you're efforts for making others aware of this epedemic ! I hope you're daughter is on her way to healing from her abuse. Keep up the good work ! Thanks for you're response!!
