Triggered by the most ridiculous things.
When my son used to stay at his dad's on weekends, he would often come home with some of his stepbrother's clothes in his suitcase. Whether because he quickly grabbed dirty clothes off the floor and didn't notice they weren't his or because they were sent home as hand-me-downs, we always had a few too-big pairs of pants and shirts lying around. After my son's abuse by his stepbrother came out, I threw away every piece of the boy's clothing that was still in our house; I couldn't look at them.
Recently I accidentally bought a pair of clearanced out pajamas for my son that were a size too big. I didn't notice until I got them home and took them out of the packaging, and immediately upon seeing them I felt sick. I thought I could just put them away and bring them back out when my son grows into them, but I couldn't even bear to have them in my house. Every time I saw them or remembered them I had an anxiety attack. I arranged to give them to a friend of my son's, but circumstances have prevented me from actually getting them to the boy yet. I'm at the point that I'm probably going to have to throw away a brand new set of pajamas just to stay sane.
I understand not being able to watch certain movies/shows or read certain books because they hit too close to home, but a pair of freaking pajamas? Really? This is exhausting.
