The day my world crashed...
Hello everyone!
My name is Kimberly. I am a mother to two children. M is 13. A is 11. On March 24th my oldest daughter called me and told me she needed to talk to me about my uncle. My uncle is someone who took the role of my father after my dad shot himself and I was removed from foster care. He was always my saving grace. Anything I needed he was there for me.
So, I was not sure what I was going to hear from her. However, when I came home my world crashed. She disclosed that he had been touching her since she was nine. I asked her what all he done and the details were very strong. She explained he never penetrated her. I've always taught my kids that no one is to touch their private parts and if they ever did they were to tell me. Literally every week I would ask them has anyone ever touched them. They would always say no. So, This was a surprise to me. I started thinking about my 11 year old and how she was leaving with him and going places (starbucks, walmart, Circle k, etc). He would come get her and take her these places. So, I thought. I brought my youngest daughter in and asked her. She said no he never touched her. Then I could tell she was not telling me the truth. I said if he touched your sister he has to be doing something to you when you leave with him. She finally admitted he started touching her at 9 and raping her at 10. I was so hurt. I remember dropping to the floor saying no and crying.
But I could not stay there. My uncle came to the door and tried to get my daughter that night. My husband told him she was not there. So, he left.
When I got the opportunity I called law enforcement. I was in shock and part of me was in denial. But the details just came thru. They were nothing a young child would make up.
You all know once LE is involved, DHR gets involved, and then the advocacy center and all the doctors and therapists.
It takes an emotional toll on you. No one understands its not just the act and betrayl. We also have to be strong for our children. We have to take them to doctors appointments. We have to make sure they get the help they need with therapists.
My uncle was arrested. Of course half of my family does not believe us but there is DNA evidence etc.
Both of my children got suicidal and wound up in psychiatric units for a week. They were able to be evaluated and get on the right medication.
My oldest has therapy monthly. My youngest weekly. It seems to have taken a toll on my youngest.
It is hard to parent a child of SA. She is very angry and disrespectful to adults. She does not trust them. She back talks me. Etc. It is very hard.
I still have not got help for myself. I am just doing the best I can. I never can get help for myself bc I deal with my children.
Also, my mother was living with him so now she is with me since everything happened. So, it is alot on me to care for her. She is psychotic schizophrenia.
I have been very suicidal. Not gonna lie. But I am trying to be strong. I work every day. I take care of the girls. Tonight I found this group. I hate we all are struggling with this. All children deserve to have a childhood.
However, I am glad I found you all - Kimberly
