Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
I joined this forum for parents because I wanted to know how normal parents are supposed to react when their children are abused. My parents did precisely nothing. But I've since started volunteering my time on my college campus as a listening ear for men who were sexually abused as children. I'll never understand the amount of evil in this world. The last time I was there before the school year ended, a guy named Patrick came in. He revealed to me that his mother had prostituted him as a child for drug money. I wanted to just take him in my arms and hold him. The person who was supposed to love and protect him nearly destroyed him from the start. I wasn't exactly naieve to the amount of evil in the world, but some things actually do still shock me.
As for the amount of evil in the world, my eyes have been opened wide in the past three years. I never would have believed that I had lived right across a beautiful street from a serial child rapist -- talked to him during the year he was destroying my daughter's childhood. I would never have believed that this could happen right under the noses of loving parents (Patrick's "mother" -- I use that term loosely -- excepted), and every day of the week, every month of the year, year after year, in our "advanced" country. It irritates me how much politicians and newscasters focus on terrorism as if it has all crossed our borders. So much of the worst terror happens in church offices, locker rooms, and even our children's own bedrooms. It leads to school failure, lowered expectations, drug abuse, suicide. If we directed half of our anti-terror budget to combatting child sexual (and other) abuse at home, we could see a huge change in the drug problem, prostitution, school performance, etc.
Please keep in touch, Wolverine, and put yourself first -- helping others is a rush, but it can take a real toll, as you expressed above. I LOVE YOU, and you deserve to feel loved.
