Geez. The system and the professionals seem to be so broken. It doesn't make any sense. I am sorry for the injustice. Your daughter deserves better. I would be upset too. It seems like today hasn't been the best for either of us. :-( Hugs.

Utterly broken. Some people get 25 years in jail, appropriately, while others walk, or have "done so well" in a program that they get out early. We need a consistent approach, and consistent punishments across state lines so we don't have surprises like this one. I'm so sorry, mbadger.

This is an epidemic.
If Ebola had rates like this we would all be in a panic.
In other words... With rates of sex abuse as common as they are, wouldn't you care to innoculate (since we're comparing this to Ebola) a known offender with as much counseling and resource as possible to make sure he doesn't ever do this again - or at least give him the best chance to never do it again? That helps not just others be safe, but prevents his own self from self harm.

I think inept is more like the word. I was in court when he received his sentence and I heard what the judge ordered. This isn't what he got. His mom wasn't even involved in his treatment and that makes me wonder why because she has 2 other kids in the home too. It makes no sense that he wouldn't receive more services. Once he's off probation, he will be allowed to be unsupervised with other kids again. It's sickening.

So, if it isn't what the judge ordered, shouldn't there be an independent re-evaluation (not one done by the therapist he's been seeing all along) in order to change the judges ruling??? Sorry, not trying to make trouble, but it seems to me a therapist can't just change the ruling without getting a corroborating opinion and then re-negotiate the ruling, otherwise, isn't it in contempt of court? Not sure how the initial ruling was worded, but just wonderin'.....

The sad reality of how the system works with juveniles is that most of what they do is not taken very seriously. Our detective stated that my daughter was the most traumatized child he'd ever investigated in his career, all 3 of my children's forenzic interviewso validated the abuse by this other boy (now 10), including that knives and scissors had been used on my daughter, the Detective himself when telling me about our case being closed shared that he believes my children and that if their stories are true that this kid is a sociopath and worse than Jeffrey Dahmer and that if anything would be taking place it would be through CPS, he also shared that the kid's mom is doing "everything right" so he believes the child won't hurt anyone else...but the reality is, if my children are telling the truth, and this family continues to live the busy schedule they always have, (even during the investigation ), then this kid wiLloyd keep raping/molesting/abusing others right under his parent's noses including his little sister! For heaven's sake, it took me over 4 years to figure out about my own children and I'm one of the most intuitive and hypervigilent parents I know! This kid was SO good at hiding the abuse and scaring his victims into saying nothing that I just so happened upon a clue that led me to the hornet's nest and if I had been even 2 seconds earlier or later, I wouldn't have heard it and my children would still be being abused! And the worse part is that I shared some other kids that my children told me were also abused with the Detective (contact info and what my children told me) and he said to not worry about it anymore but that they'll disclose sooner than later if my children told the truth. So, all that to say, I totally understand the system not working! :(

naïve- It seems they would have to follow the order, but they are saying that what they got is different from what I heard ordered in court. Not sure what will happen now. It's sickening because this kid has gotten off easy from everyone every step along the way, except of course from me. I feel like people are sending the message that it isn't that bad or else he would have been in more trouble. Oh, and I just found out he has a girlfriend. Can you imagine your child dating a child molester and not knowing?

warriormom- Yes, sadly from my experience in this, the system is broken. Victims get victimized over and over while the perp gets multiple chances. I know of another child in my area who was molesting with a story similar to yours and he was removed from his home and sent to another state for treatment so hold tight to that and maybe things will work in that way. But, you can only do what is right for your kids now, even though you want to help others, it sounds like that isn't going to happen.
