Newbie and I could really use some advice

Hi all,


I am looking for any advice you can give to someone who is just starting the criminal process. We filed charges and the POS (family friend) was arrested on 2 counts of agg sexual assault of a child and 1 count of indecency with a child by sexual contact. He was arrested and bailed out the following day with $150k bail. The investigator is not giving any information, a search warrant was not conducted (family members were seen in the house moving items shortly after the arrest) and so on. 
I am angry and wanting justice. People in that town are even defending him! Please help me!!

Hello, mamalane, and welcome. I am so sorry this has happened to your family. This crime is pure evil, and it can bring out the worst in those who don't believe your child -- or who do and want to cover it up. It also is subject to a really uneven legal treatment, for so many reasons.

Thank God you believed your child. Whatever justice is or is not done, that is the single biggest and best thing you, mamalane, could have done in this situation. Everything that follows will be because you love your child and your family, and you can't do better in life than that. Even in the middle of this dark and furious nightmare, there is that blazing light of goodness.

The most important thing is that you believed your child and took action to protect them. It took almost two years from the original police report filing till when our trial took place. I don’t believe in our case a search warrant was ever used. It wonderful that the DA has decided to try your case they must feel they have adequate evidence for it to go to court.

mamalane, I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. My daughter was assaulted 9 times in November 2020. The perpetrator (paternal grandfather) is facing 9 felonies paid 5K cash bail and is out free. The first hearing was scheduled for 4/27 but got pushed to 7/14. Unfortunately what I've learned is the court process is sloppy & long. I've also learned that Justice can mean many things. I used to get so frustrated and cry but my health started to get affected so I've learned to handle things differently as there are things I have no control over. I wish you the best. Come here for support too whenever you want. The criminal court process is definitely a marathon, not a sprint...and healing for both you and your daughter is too. Has she started to look for any counseling yet? She should qualify under victims compensation--if they haven't said anything to you yet, ask about it.
