New to situation looking for support

Hello All 


i found out yesterday from my son's counselor that at some point he was molested by someone.  No specific details nothing.  It was dropping a bomb of the worst situation and leaving me with nothing else.  It was blowing my mind that someone knew who hurt my son but couldnt' tell me anything about it. My mind can't even process the amount of emotions that i am feeling right now for my son who also won't tell me.  I am looking for any support or guidance as to what i need to do for myself and my son to help him along this journey.  She said she had to make a call to the hotline so I am left waiting for a call from the state to be asked questions that I don't have any answers for.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, especially since you're completely in the dark on what is going on. Try to focus on helping your son heal and know the details will be soon to follow. My sons were 16 and 18 when they finally told me and their abuse started around the age of 4. At least he told someone. It's scary to disclose. He'll start feeling more comfortable and I'm sure will open up to you as much as he can. I learned most of my information from the reports I received from the authorities. I couldn't bare asking my sons the specifics on what happened to them. I urge them to tell their therapists though. I want them to heal.

This wasn't much support to you. I'm sorry. Please know you're not alone. There are unfortunately too many parents out here feeling the same way you are and so many kids hurt by monsters.

There will be good days and bad days. Some days you'll feel almost normal and other days you sit all day wishing you could fast forward this part of your life.

Hi, macphoto. I'm so sorry you needed to find this group, but I'm glad you're here. Unfortunately, I'm about to fall asleep, but not without letting you know of two resources first:

1in6.org -- help for males who have been sexually abused, and their loved ones; it can take boys and men a long time to disclose (if they ever do). Your son's psych has done you a favor, because we parents are often the last to know -- years after the fact.

If you feel as if your heart and brain are in a blender. that's normal. Nothing in my life has ever rocked me so completely as did learning that my daughter had been raped and threatened with death when she was young. And nothing else explained her anxiety and depression. Knowing was the beginning of helping...but the first person you need to help is yourself. Hire a psych of your own ASAP.
