Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
The guilt is completely your nephew's (16 is plenty old enough to understand that this is wrong), and you couldn't possibly have known what was in his mind.
So please give yourself credit for what you have done exactly right: you believed your son. When children disclose and are believed, their healing has already begun. No matter what
legal, emotional, and familial turmoil may follow, you have accepted the truth and have thrown your support behind him -- the way a doctor has to know the diagnosis before committing to a course of treatment. It's remarkable that your son disclosed so quickly -- some of us here didn't learn for years -- and that means he will begin healing as a child, instead of living with buried pain until adulthood.
I know you have plenty to do -- in normal circumstances a mother of a five-year-old is busy -- but I hope you'll make time over the next couple of days to read through the excellent website www.mosac.net. Open up and slide your cursor down the entire drop-down menu to see all that's available there to help you understand your feelings, your son's feelings, and how this could have happened, and why you wouldn't have known.
I'm hoping you are able to keep your son completely away from his cousin from now on.
Thinking of you, sending support.
