How long from police report to forensic interview?

Okay guys I need your help... I need to know how long it took each of your cases to be sent to a detective and have a forensic interview setup from the time that you reported it to the police?



I'm trying to make sure that the only reason I haven't heard from our detective is because he is incompetent detective and not because I'm overreacting and he's just a really busy guy. There's a lot of pressure on with our case because we know our perps are trying to leave the country in a month and I want to get on the ball with getting my children's forensic interviews done so that they can see that what they're saying is true and they can go out there and investigate the actual perps family. My husband and I are also contemplating when we should request another detective to review our case and/or if we should talk to our detective's supervisor and explain our frustrations. We are trying not to rock the political boat but we want to make sure that the police department does their job without bias in this situation which we have not felt since the beginning due to our son and daughter's molestation.  Please help if you can!


We reported on the other 3 children 1 1/2 weeks ago and the parents almost 1 week ago.

My daughter's forensic interview was approximately2 weeks after reporting to police... That was 5 years ago next month and still have not recieved justice for my daughter

Each department and each situation is different but our local detective contact us I wanna say a day or two (so Aug 17th or 18th) after our initial report and then my daughter had her interview on the Aug 22 or 26. I cant remember. But another detective from another department called us the very next day after we found out. (my sister had already made a report and filled the detective up there in pretty quickly) but the third detective didn't contact me until Phil had already been arrest and seen before the judge. Her physical exam wasn't until the end of September though.

My Daughter reported to us that she had been molested on Sunday night. We went to the police on Tuesday and the interview was done on Friday of the same week. The officer who took our report had had a child abused by a family member was adment that something be done immediately. I guess in a way we have been very blessed with assistance.

Ours were the next week. Within days. The police really did not have anything to do with the interview. It was more Department of Human Services. A detective had to be there though.

Well, we've left 3 messages with the detective, 1 message with his supervisor (in all respect explaining the urgency in regards to the perps trying to move) and my little guys therapist told me tonight that when he called CPS in regards to the perp father taking his clothes off in a home movie they told him NO CASE WORKER had been assigned because he believed it had been turned over to the police. SO, CPS isn't helpful anymore. I'm trying to see all this as a good thing because they're attempting to not tip off the family by having a CPS worker get involved BUT WE HAVEN'T HEAR FROM THEM in 2 weeks since our first new report!

Time is ticking away and our hands are literally tied. I was even told by two social workers that at this point, the only way for us to get new forensic interviews was with the police, not through CPS. *Sigh*

I'm REALLY leaning hard on believing that God knows what He's doing and that at just the right last minute POOF! something will happen! ;o)

Do you have a Lutheran Family Services or a Catholic Charities there? Those are the two groups that helped us throughout our journey.

Lutheran Family Services did the Forensic Interview and scheduling so the detective would be there. They also gave us a lot of information on therapy, what to expect after disclosure, etc.

Catholic Charities is where our advocate is from. They also helped with the legal process.

Perhaps a program like these can help you find other ways to work your case

Thank you, I started checking into that. Another week has passed with no word from the police so we just live life while waiting...

I had the same experience with our detective really bad at giving information or doing anything with the investigation. In the end he literally told me my step dad had proved he was inocent by passing a polygraph, although he clearly was premeditating the abuse with internet searches we gave the police he admitted he had made searches but gave a bogus excuse. It was ridiculous in the end I just stopped contacting him. I couldn't believe that was the best our justice system could do. They were quick to give up and worse they made me doubt what I knew happened. He also said things like there is no rush, she can always press charges later due to statue laws. Accepting our daughter wouldn't get justice was very hard but in order to move forward I had too and we did. It was a harrowing experiene...I feel bad hearing others have similar experiences with those that should be protecting not doubting our children. Shame on them.
