I'm really stressed out today. I think I've mentioned in the group before that we are currently living in a different country to my daughter's abuser. We've been told that we may have to travel back to the USA more than once if the case goes to court. My mom had told me my grandfather was going to be able to release my inheritance money early to help with this, so we finally talked to him about it yesterday. He has recently decided that the money needs to be used in case he has to go into a nursing home so he can't help. I'm completely devastated, I haven't been able to go back to work since the disclosure due to debilitating anxiety and depression (I've worked full-time since I was 17 years old) I just don't know eBay we're going to do now.... :(

It is definitely a financial burden,we too as are many here paying out of pocket for therapists,ect.May I ask what country you are in?I ask because if it is Canada you might be able to access some charitible organizations.I do think you are getting ahead of yourself though,a trial could be a year or more,my guess is more.Are you seeing anyone? Therapist,psychiatrist?

No We're in England and have both been on the waiting list for counseling for 4 months. I will continue to save my money and hopefully have enough if it takes a year. I just want him arrested! I also feel like since it will be the state vs him shouldn't they help with our travel costs if they are saying we both have to testify

I would start looking for help,there must he some th ng like catholic charities or something.England I would imagine is pretty advanced.Therapists should know, kqube you can call around and if you are lucky you might find someone willing to help

I just had to check in. We are still dealing with the financial fallout of 2013, the year it all hit the fan: our daughter's drug abuse, car accident/surgeries, and disclosure. In that order. We have been dealing with the IRS ever since, trying to pay off taxes we owed after depleting our life's savings and most of our discretionary income to cover medical bills, drug and physical rehab, court costs, and psychologists' bills. I was almost incapacitated with grief and depression during this period, just able to complete grad school and come home and lie on the couch. We were bound to make mistakes, but we never thought we'd still be dealing with them almost four years later.

My advice for you is, even though you are struggling now, to keep in touch with your creditors. Work out an arrangement for minimum payments you can stick with, and if you have a month where you may fall behind, call them and let them know in advance. I didn't keep up with this, because I just wanted to die. But here I am, alive and dealing with the ghosts of 2013.

This is killer on the household budget. My very best wishes for you.
