I have only heard of this being given when a child was sexually abused and they were worried she was pregnant..So they gave her meds to block it until she turned 13. Other than that I have not heard of it. She was 10 then. In this case it worked and she had no issues, but don't know your circumstance. I hope this helps you gentle hugs casey

We saw the endocrinologist today and had both my daughter's PcP & therapist write her to say that my daughter psychologically needs time before starting her period. We had NO push back with using puberty blockers to treat her AT ALL! We were a bit shocked! BUT, we also learned that she was at that stage of puberty where she was about to start her period...so perfect timing!

We have been doing specific focusing on "blood" for EMDR with her therapist and will be adding "needles" to that as she has had panic anxiety when the dentist had to use a needle on her & that is how this medicine will be administered. For EMDR, She drew pictures of monster boy hurting her, monster boy scribbled out & 4 weapons including scissors & knives as what she thought of when she thinks of the word "blood." LOTS of work to do still, obviously!

I will update this thread for anyone else who needs info on precocious puberty (which my daughter does not technically have/she's borderline) & puberty blockers. Here's hoping we make the right decision!

Ok, so I got the call from the endocrinology nurse and she said my daughter's blood work confirms that she's going through true puberty. Also, her bone scan shows her growth plates to be almost closed, which means she's reached 90% of her adult height at just over 11 years old! They said that it DOES seem that she has precocious puberty based on her symptoms.

They say that growth chart predictions put her between 5'2" & 5'5"as an adult...I am 5'6" & My hubby is 6'. The puberty blockers are supposed to give her a bit more growing time but slower growth rate. I am so glad that height us not as much a factor for girls when they grow up. *sigh&

THIS IS A PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION OF HER SEXUAL ABUSE STARTING AT 4 YEARS OLD! They stunted my daughter's growth and forced her body to grow up way too early! Not to mention her psychological struggles in regards to becoming a woman...triggers of blood, needles, pictures...

And yet, even though I am SO hurt that we have to deal with this, somehow I have mostly forgiven them. I say mostly because there are two individuals that I'd have to see in person to evaluate if I truly forgave them...

Anyways, her 1st shot in the bum is the day after her drama show is over. Luckily, my mother-in-law will be here to help with the munchkins. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers! Hoping we make some real progress in EMDR this week!

So, we (daughter, dr., therapist, me mom) decided to stop the puberty blockers and allow puberty to take its natural course this summer. My daughter is 100% ready and understanding of what's going to happen to her body an emotionally a lot more prepared and mature. One of the side effects that we both are not real fond of is that she gained a lot of weight on this medicine even though she swims like 5 to 6 hours a week and I don't let her have seconds and we eat extremely healthy. So part of the reason we're getting off is due to that health issue and the other part is that we want to make sure she has the summer time to react in a healthy way to becoming a woman rather than taking the last shot that was offered and having her period start when school starts next year. I wouldn't change how much time we were given to be able to process more stuff what she has done an amazing job at doing! And if anyone ever has any questions about using puberty blockers please ask. One thing that we were not fond of is that most of her appointment she ended up having to have her private parts checked to see where puberty was but we did have a female doctor which made it a little easier to deal with but it was slightly traumatizing each time.
