Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
Maybe you should think about what your goal for the sentence will be and let that guide you. Speak from your heart. Does your daughter wish to say anything? She is so young but so,so strong. Take the time to think about it.
Have faith that the right words will come to you. you can do it, Laura
It's your opportunity to tell the judge exactly how the abuse has impacted your daughter, you, your everyday lives, how you make decisions, etc. For example, my one son (the main victim) has PTSD, gets angry with himself easily, has changed in his view of himself and others, has trust issues, etc. I know for me, because our perp lived in town and had many supporters, I couldn't go to the grocery store, Home Depot, the pharmacy, etc alone for over a year for fear of being confronted, I either couldn't sleep, or I couldn't get out of bed, I felt nauseous all the time, couldn't eat, then I'd overeat, I couldn't concentrate at work, when my case (home care) ended, I couldn't secure another one, couldn't concentrate on household chores or paperwork/bills, etc. I went to 4 different counselors because not many who participate with our insurance have training and experience with sexual abuse of a child.
The more complete picture you can give to the judge the better without being repetitive. I'd also avoid speaking to the offender, being vulgar or calling him names, etc, but asking for the sentence that would help your daughter and you heal, and would provide the punishment and correction that the offender needs, and the protection necessary for the public. I hope this helps, good luck to you, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. (((hugs)))
