This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
Yay, she made it,graduated 6th grade.After not being at school for the last month she walked down to her classroom to be with the other kids.I think she really felt a sense of accomplishment.Afterwards we handed out cards to all the teachers,counselor,nurse,principal,secretary. I spoke to all involved and thanked them for their help and told them that even though we disagreed on if we should have kept her in school I knew they all had her best interest at heart.We went to IHOP with a couple friends after. I am now on to middle school, I say I because I will advocate just as hard as I did. Middle school will go better because I know more.I live in a horror school district but I hope the new school is a little better.We will see!!!
Despite the generally bad rap middle schools get (mainly because of the hormonal fluctuations of the student body), they can be places of great positive transition. Students begin to catch little glimpses of their future adult selves and often become more serious about schoolwork, as it's just slightly more challenging than elementary work. You may find that teachers there are more attuned to the needs and vicissitudes of students in life-stage transition, and are more willing to mentor individual kids. Find those teachers -- even if they're not your daughter's main subject teachers (an art or music teacher might intuitively be better at helping kids express themselves in different ways) -- and help your daughter to establish a good relationship with them ASAP.
