I wouldn't talk to her too much about it beforehand. You don't want to influence what she will say. Just let her know that it's safe to talk, you'll be waiting for her when she is finished, and to tell the truth.

Agree with mamablue - when my daughter disclosed, and we set up her forensic interview - I didn't ask her anything to talk to her about what happened. I told her right before she went in that it was okay, and she needed to tell the truth. When she came out, she was so proud of herself and state "Mommy, I told the truth". I honestly think that there was relief in telling for her - it was the beginning of our nightmare, but the ending of her abuse and started her path to healing.

I just told my daughter that she should tell the whole truth and that by telling the truth she was making sure no one else would be hurt like she had been... And I told her she was a hero for her honesty and bravery...!!! After she came out of the interview I let her pick a treat and we went and had some ice cream together. Just give her lots of love and support and tell her to be completely honest...!!!

I agree with the other posts so far. I was told not to talk to her about what happened, just to say that we were going somewhere like a doctors office and that she could tell them what happened. I was there alone so I would recommend that you take someone with you as it was very difficult to sit and wait knowing what was going on in the other room.

In the future, avoid "rewarding" for disclosure - ie treats, etc

Thank you for mentioning this 96%... I want to clarify that I didn't offer the reward before she went into the interview only after because she did so well... I told her I was proud of her for being so brave an honest and told her I understood how hard it was for her and that we both deserved a treat... It's something I do on any other day that might be hard for her... Such as a bad day at school... So it wasn't out of our normal way of operating... But I do agree you should not mention the treat until after... It is not a bribe for truthfulness in the interview... Only a way to comfort and south after everything is said and done...!!!
