Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
I'm not sure there's a magic switch for clearing your mind, but beginning to practice mindfulness meditation gives you a doorway into a more peaceful state where, even if that woman's image/voice, etc., come into your mind, you can just notice it and return to your breathing/mantra/whatever you focus on while meditating.
A quicker fix that doesn't involve a pile of chocolate is going for a walk and listening hard to the bird calls (or other sounds) around you. How many different ones can you identify? Can you spot the source of each sound? How far away is the source of each sound? Do you hear two or more birds that seem to be communicating? Can you hear insects humming? Etc.
I just want to hug you, I'm so happy for what you've done for your daughter.
Another thing I've tried, with mixed success, is that if there are thoughts that are recurring and bothersome to you, try to have a plan for what you will do or think about instead when those thoughts come up. Maybe pray for your daughter, or think of something positive she is doing, think of a song that inspires you, etc. I'd say it works for me about 1/3 of the time--better than nothing.
