Calling for new legislation

For the parents out there that didn’t get anything from the justice system, have you considered calling your congressman? I am considering it, I feel like several victims have to come forward before something happens such in Nassar case. Things need to change, when there are allegations made by children other parents should know about it. Just thinking and hoping for change

I totally agree. It seems it needs to take for more than one victim for anything to get done. I believe too many times the first voice is ignored until too many more come forward.

In our case, my one son did an "overhear" with the town and county detectives where he called the perp on a phone that was being tape recorded after not speaking to him for a couple yrs; my son signed consent to do the recording which is the law in our state, and it was all admissible in court. My son got him to admit everything. Even with that--irrefutable evidence and a taped confession, the ultra liberal judge thought it was just a matter of immaturity on both their parts, completely ignoring the fact that there was a near 8 yr age difference, and the perp was a teacher at the time of the abuse. Judges need to have in-services every other year or so to update them on the laws, the intricacies and effects of child sexual abuse, and the complicated healing process. When they don't rule according to the law, they need to be charged, prosecuted, fined, removed, whatever... Our case is far from the only one I've run across where, after fighting so hard to get credible evidence, and getting the case to court, the judge failed the victim, the family, the investigators, the prosecutors, and society... Thank God the judge in the Nassar case was, seemingly, the exception to the rule.

The current occupant of the White House has spoken openly about wishing he could date his own daughter and about grabbing women's genitals without consent, never saw a victim he didn't accuse of lying, and is more concerned with the rights of the accused. It's been a triggering-as-hell year-and-a-half. He's not likely to sign any legislation that protects the rights of victims/survivors. The current majority in Congress support him. I.e., we lack a real representative body to take on a new issue in an election year.

My bet would be to contact the challengers' campaigns and ask them to make this an issue. Definitely, as Bandmom said, the best bet for immediate change is to focus on the judges.
