This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !

A nice surprise

We had a lovely surpsise today. Dd13 is a rhythmic gymnast. We had to tell her coach about the abuse as she was. having flashbacks at training. It turns out that the coach was abused by her step brother as a kid. She is very supportive. She knows the girls have been doing it tough of late. At the end of training tonight she gave our daughter artwork she had framed and which she asked a friend to do. It says "courage believe and hope sisters" with our girl's names on it. What a blessing to end the day with.

Guess that this happens all more often than we care to know - sometimes works to our own advantage.
That same sense applies to this board. Not glad any of us here, but thankful we have each other.

Oh, Ozmum, your experience shows why it's SO important to let in on our situation the the people who are in a position to support our children, I mean. Professionally, the coach needed to take this new info into account and make sure your daughter received help if she needed it during training. However, at a personal level, the coach took an extra risk in sharing her own experience with your daughter. How much safer your daughter must feel now! I think this woman deserves a nomination for Coach of the Year.

Yep, like I said the other day, support can come from the most unexpected places. We told her a while back. She is usually very good in helping dd when she zones out or has a flashback but doesn't always pick it and can make matters worse. I just gently remind her that dd usually is very willing to be there (she does train 16 hours a week, so doesn't always feel like it) and that if she is having problems concentrating/teary etc then it's usually because of what is happening at home or within herself. It's a relief to have such a supportive coach. Dd drew a picture of a rhythmic gymnast and framed it as a present to give to her. She will give it to her today.

Naive1, I perfectly understand being tired and not making sense. I have had three bad nights in a row now and counselling this morning, so could be an interesting session!

Hopefully it will involve hypnosis so you can get a little rest!

That is so wonderful!! I am glad that your daughter's coach is being so supportive and shared something with her that could help her tremendously!! I hate that it happened to anyone, but her sharing this with your daughter could help her see that she can overcome this and live a very happy and fulfilling life!!
