It does get better. The initial shock, disappointment, and hurt goes away. I know for me I felt all those things in the beginning. Then I found myself angry for a while, I still have times where I'll get mad. Angry at my son for not listening when I told him he was going down the wrong path, angry for not thinking about how his actions will effect the rest of his family, angry at his level.of selfishness. But then I got to the point where I just couldn't handle all the negative feelings I was carrying. So i try daily to make the best out of a horrible situation. I talk about my son daily, I refuse to be embarrassed by the fact that he's in prison, I remember all the good times we had and know that with God's will we'll have them again. I remember who he is, and remember that 1 bad choice does not define him as a person. We know who our children are despite the choice they made to land them in prison. I work hard to keep the negative feelings at bay because they'll do nothing but ear me up inside. I'll pray for you and yours.

Acts 5:17-20: Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Sometimes your ministry starts when you’re under captivity. Look at Jonah for instance. He went down down down until he went down into the belly of the whale because he didn’t do what God called him to do. When you are called, God will take you as far down as you can go until you listen and do His will. My son is facing a life sentence and is now seeking the Holy Ghost and read the entire bible now Studying, said he is more free now then he has ever been. Pray God enter your sons heart and he will start his ministry there as well. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Fast & pray for that

Oh can we relate! My husband is a pastor and we understand the feelings of helplessness. “God, I have served you all these years and honored your call to adopt this boy and this is where we are!” I have been in contact with others who have been in prison and are now pastors! They are giving us hope that even if our son is in for life, which could happen, he can be free on the inside and have a great ministry there. One of the exfelon pastors said the same thing mamarayan. Many times God uses captivity to get our attention...Israelites, Jonah, Joseph,...Praying your son will have peace and protection. Keep loving on him. Praying for you to be able to navigate with Jesus the tough days and to trust his perfect will even when it is so hard to see.

Funny you should ask...today is our adopted daughter’s birthday. She is in such a bad place too. We haven’t seen her for almost 7 years. She ran away when she was 18 and went back to her birth mom. She didn’t have any contact with us for 5 years. We have been talking with her via text and phone but she has stopped talking to us again. Long story...but tough day. Jesus has truly been my strength for sure today!
