My son has been diaginozed with Asperger's, Are there any people on here familar with that illness? I'm searching google for more information but would appreciate any help from you all. He's unable to show any remorse or even beleive that he's done wrong. He will never admit that he;s guity. I send him money & letters but I receive nothing back from him, it gets very tiring for me. There are days I feel like giving up on him but I know I never will. He says when he gets released he not going to take his PO advice or restrictions so if he does'nt we know where he will end up to again. For a mom it is heart breaking. Thanks for your comments and encouragement, I love you all. Blessings, G

My niece's daughter is diagnosed with Asperger's but she is a very bright girl and for the most part does well. I think there are different kinds and levels so it is hard to say. I hope he sees the light and doesn't break the rules. all you can do is love him, but he will have to find his own way...and sometimes they have to take the long way around. love, sharon

I don't personally have much insight to Asperger's, I believe it is a form of autism and if you've ever seen PARENTHOOD there is a young boy that has Aspergers. They do a good job of showing the many challenges the family is experiencing and perhaps it will connect some dots from your past (I have SEVERAL friends with children that have it and they've confirmed its very close to reality, go figure Hollywood got one right) Studies show 1 in ever 110 children are now born with autism so the research and knowledge is growing but certainly not where it needs to be considering those stats will soon represent our adult society. I think the more you understand the disease you will have alot of questions answered and find peace from the fact that your son, sincererly, does think and feel different with this being apart of his character. Best of luck with your search in better understanding your son.

My son was 'worked up' for Asperger's in elementary school but didn't meet the criteria (at that time) because he was not phsically uncoordinated. Yet, he doesn't 'get' social cues, has no empathy, is not remorseful, and already plans to argues with his PO when he gets out. He was in special ed for ADHD behavior problems from pre-school on. I have done everything -- counseling, pyschiatrists, medicine, therapeutic school -- and now he is going to prison. He couldn't get along with the lawyer I hired or the public defender so he defended himself 'pro se'. Sending texts to his (now ex) girlfriend's phone to her former but now current boyfriend -- felony intimidation of a witness. Have you learned more about Asperger's and how that effects his behavior related to his incarceration since your post last year?

Our son said "I love you guys" for the first time the night he went into jail. He had NEVER said anything like that before. He was diagnosed Aspergers at the age of 19 and he does not show emotion. He smiles occasionally, but hardly ever. He has not shown emotion towards going into jail and does not seem to be concerned for his welfare. Being scared does not seem to cross his mind. - There have been two exemptions. His huge eyes were raised when he was put in jail and he told us he almost threw up when he hear the reading of his offenses. - I see these as two emotions he's never shown before./ His lack of emotion is very difficult for people. It concerns me greatly when he is sentenced to prison. It will come across as lack of remorse and it may be viewed as very offensive. It truly is one of my greatest concerns.

Praying for your son. I hope he has a case worker or good attorney that will share his diagnosis with the judge
