A group that tries to share with each other how they deal with being a good supporting parent of a prisoner and the unique problems that arise. What to share or not, how to deal with spouse of prisoner, ex-spouse of, children of prisoner which we may not see either anymore,so forth

I just joined group and I'm praying that this will help ease some of my pain. My son is 29 and his first time going to prison. He is at RDC now and has been only two weeks and I've been a total mess and wreck. We are in Indiana. I want and ask questions of what goes on, but at same time I don't want to know. He is going into the "purposeful incarseration program" which I hear different views on it. Does anyone know of this program? I've never dealt with any family member in prison, and the scary things I hear has been destroying my life and I can only imagine how scared he is. I'm lucky to get to work each day because I'm about ready to give up. I'm new to group as I said, and praying it helps me cope.

Hi, I'm not sure what RDC is ,and I would also be interested in the purposeful incarceration program is , I am also new here ,there are some people that can answer your questions and some that are new . We are moms and dads and families on this site , this site has helped me get thru so many nights of sobbing ,and helped me to understand what my son is going thru ,better then counslers , I think ,it's good to talk to people that have something in common with you .my son has been in for almost 4 years and has a long time to go , I am heartbroken at the choice he made and for his life he's wasting ,but will love him til I die ! Good luck and may you find answers ..please don't give up,

Thank you susieduty, RDC is the transition from jail to prison. Inmates are there approximately 30 days before being placed into a prison for all sorts of tests from medical to physiology testing. Purposeful incarseration is a program for inmates with addiction problems, depression ECT..They are in a dorm like setting with classes from 8-4 each day. Very strick quidelines what I've heard and if the inmates complete the classes they can get time cuts. My son was on house arrest for a battery charge, and he tested positive more than once for alcohol on his weekly check-in. Alcohol shows up for 3 days in a urine screen. So the judge gave him the remaining probation time of 4 1/2 years in DOC. and he's never been before. I believe it was a bit harsh, but I've got to believe God has reason. Has it got easier for you over time? I don't see it getting easier for me until he's home and I'm constantly worried about what goes on in there. Thank you for responding to my post and I'm praying this support group ease's my pain.

My 29 year old son has been in RDC in Plainfield for about a week - sent from Tippecanoe County. His first (and I pray only) trip to prison. I've been praying for mine. I'll pray for you and your son also. The IN DOC website did say that you can write them: Name and DOC#; 737 Moon Road, Plainfield IN 46168. You can send them paper and stamped envelopes that they can take with them when they are transferred to the facility. Keeping you in my prayers.
