Hello everyone, I just joined this group and read a few of the postings they could all have been written by me so I think I've found some friends. My son was arrested Sept. 2016 and is still waiting for his sentencing date. I have never been a person that cried easily and now it seems to be a part of my daily life. Nothing can prepare a Mom for this. The charge against my son has a mandatory minimum of 3 years and up to 25 years along with thousands of dollars in fines possible. This is a first time offense and as others have stated the penalty seems unfair for the crime. I have been careful who I tell what to because not everyone understands the hurt and grief of having a child in jail and I don't need the added pain of being judged myself right now. My husband and I do know a couple at our church whose son committed a similar crime 10 years ago and they have been a great support to us and wonderful prayer warriors on behalf of our family. I also have found great comfort in a daily devotional called "Jesus Calling" some days I swear it is written just for me. When my son was arrested he of course lost his job and his home since he would not be able to pay his rent. He lives 9 hours away from us and we had to take several trips to empty out his house, take his dog to the humane society, sell his car and take care of all his personnal affairs. It took us months to get power of attorney because the notary at the jail didn't have my son sign in the right places and we kept having to send the papers over and over. It seemed like one nightmare on top of another. We did find a site called JailATM that enables us to send emails to our son and that has been helpful and comforting. Since we're told not to mention his case in emails, letters or visits we just wait and pray hoping for the best possible outcome. Waiting is the hardest. He will probably be sentenced this summer and sent to a state prison which may be closer or further away for us to visit him and will bring on a whole new level of concern for this mom. I'm glad I found this online support group, I hope to be encouraged by all of you and I hope I can be an encouragement to you. Blessings to all.
