i raised the perfect daughter so everyone said. Kindergarten at 4, senior in high school by 16.college grad by 19. Never gave me a minute of trouble. I gave her everything cars, trips to Europe paid for her education . No student loans for this kid, she did everything right so she deserved it. Not bad for a single mom! After devoting 20 years of my life to my children. I decided it was time for me to date. She was very angry and turned her back on me, she got involved with a man who was very immature. The relationship ended after the birth of my grand daughter. She came back and asked for help. I paid her rent and her babysitter. I helped her get on her feet and when I got engaged she again turned her back on me. Now I have no contact with her or my granddaughter. I don’t know how to fix this relationship. My heart is broken. I have a great relationship with my husband and my other daughter but I just can’t wrap my head around what she wants from me.

I think you will be one of the few who has an estranged child return to you sooner than most of us. As you mentioned, the relationship ended with the birth of your granddaughter. Your daughter had some major life events, albeit good ones, perhaps with the changes such as her mother entering into a relationship, the birth of a child and the HORMONES that come with that...including obvious money issues and her own loss of a relationship--- lets just say that she is probably pointing fingers at the person who loves her the most. She will come back around if she hasn't already. Take time to take care of you and your relationship with her husband and other daughter.

I️ hope you are right.. started to see a therapist because , I realized I was going through the phases of grief. My husband’s job will be moving us across the country. I fear she will take my move as a sign of abandoment again! All I can do is pray for her and hope!

I'm sorry you're going through this. I think what's happening in our society today is that parents are doing soooo much for their kids that instead of the kids appreciating it, they come to expect it. I think your daughter thinks you exist to provide for her needs, and when she found out you wanted more in your life, she took offense and cut you off. I'm afraid this is a trend in our society as we give our kids everything they could ever want or need, and instead of being grateful, they hate us for some perceived fault or slight.
