Like most of you, I have a child that has cut me out of her life. Not just me, she has cut all of her family.
She and I were always very close and I was very involved with her and all of her activities all her school and college years. She is 24 years old. We were even there when her husband proposed to her. She will be married 2 years in July. I was not allowed to be any part of planning her wedding (execpt for money). Then the day of the wedding we (her family) we just like any other guest.
She will not speak to anyone from her family. We haven't heard from her in months. I have tried writting her loving, encouraging, positive letters. With no response.
I was cut out of my daughters life in the last few months of her senior year...refusing me the chance to have her open house... I was a wreck and I was also betrayed by church friends who took her in. It was over a boy... they took her side... I never missed an event all her life... I was a stay at home mom... I was and am devastated... she has turned other members of family against me as well. I am in counseling... so sorry for your pain... its the worst pain..
So sorry for your loss. Agree with Teri. The worst pain. I wish I had answers for you. But none of us would have ever dreamed our devoted parenting would produce this. My daughter had a baby last weekend. My first grandchild. Have only seen a couple of pics others in family have been able to find thru social media. My daughter comes n goes. It's very dissociative. All is well one day and then something triggers her departure from self and us and then we do not hear from her until she's in distress. This time she married and had a baby. The heartache is wrenching. And the divisions that unfold. Take care of you. Mothers aren't used to doing that. But I find I must focus on my needs now. So we all can survive this. And maybe even live again. Survival is not enough. Book "When Things Fall Apart" by Pem Chodron is helpful. Somehow maybe we can all reach a place of acceptance. I sent my daughter a Mother's Day card yesterday and put her new last name on mailing address. I don't even know this person who's my son in law. Nor have held my grandchild. But only place to meet someone is where they are at. Remember that these events which break our hearts are often human constructs based on idealistic circumstances which most of us just do not have. Been thinking bout that a lot lately. Deep comfort to you.
I haven't seen mySon in 13 years! I have 4 grandchildren thatIve never seen! It doesn't get any better, believe me. They have their own truths. It doesn't matter WHAT the actual truth is!! Keep going for your own sake! You have to live for YOUR sake!!Let them figure it out for themselves!!!
"She and I were always very close and I was very involved with her and all of her activities.." This is code for suffocating.
"We were even there when her husband proposed to her..." You shouldn't have been. That was a private moment.
"I was not allowed to be any part of planning her wedding (except for money)." It's HER wedding! She can plan everything. Your decision to give money does not buy control over the planning.
"Then the day of the wedding we (her family) we just like any other guest. ." Again, it's HER special day, not yours.
If you want to be at the center of all private, special moments in her life ("The bride at every wedding, the baby of every christening, the corpse at every funeral...") you need to realize that, you had your day in the sun: it's over. It's her turn to shine, now, and yours to step back and enjoy her enjoying it.
