Parents of estranged adult children Community Group
One or more of our adult children walked out of our lives and never looked back.
I shared my story in an earlier post. My son has been away from our family since June 2011 (2 days after Father's Day. How ironic!!) Sadly my husband, daughter and I went through all of the same emotions that all of you are going through. The anger, the disbelief that he could do this to us, the betrayal, the hurtful words and actions, the many, many tears, the constant questioning of myself as a mom, could we have done something to avoid all of this and the gut wrenching pain like no other. I beat myself up emotionally for years. I think the worst part is knowing that I may never see him again – I miss him!!! That breaks my heart and always will.
It took me five years to get to a point where I can talk about it without crying. Under certain circumstances, I still tear up, but not like I used to. I know this situation is out of my control, but it took me years to let it go. I’ve always believed in God, but I can honestly say that my faith journey began in August 2011. If it weren’t for our faith in Jesus, it’s hard to say where my husband and I would be right now. I do know that I’m the happiest that I have ever been in my life. I wish my son was a part of it, but unfortunately he’s not. That’s a decision “he” made. I will welcome him with open arms when that day comes. And . . . I have faith that it will happen. In the meantime, it is in God’s hands and I know He doesn’t want me to spend my days worrying, crying or beating myself up about something I can’t control or change. Only God can change my son’s heart. I pray for him every day and I have faith that it will happen, but in God’s timing, not mine.
I’m praying for all of you and that you find peace through this horrible ordeal. I know it's so very, very hard. Be patient and let God help you through this – it works!!! I know!!! Many hugs to all!!!
