Hi, I am new to this site. I am a 61 year young woman who has been estranged from my adult daughter for 4 years +. I don't even know why or how the estrangement occurred, but it was exasperated by the death of my mother two years ago. The loss of my mother was huge! It was like losing a limb. The first time I saw my 32 year old daughter was at my mom's burial. After the first 2 years of estrangement. What a way to see/reunite with your kid. Sad. After my mother's passing, our whole family had issues. I sent text messages to my daughter that perhaps I should not have. I'll write more later but suffice to say, I feel so guilty and am so sorry for my part in this whole situation. I am working with a PH.d who specializes in parents of estranged adult children. Did not hear from my daughter on Mother's Day. She is graduating with her MFA on Sunday, May 24th. I will not be there. Her 33rd birthday is June 2nd and I will not be there. My daughter has written my therapist saying she is inundated with her personal life, is in therapy of her own, working on her thesis and too busy to indulge in a family session at this time. I do not even know what it will be like if we do connect through my therapist. On the one hand I love her dearly. On the other, I am very angry with her behavior. I was there for her when her dad and I divorced. I was there for her when he left town and married another woman. I was there for her during her adolescent and college years of cutting, bulimia, two suicide attempts, burglaries, shoplifting and multiple 5150's. I never turned my back against her. I spent the majority of my good years Reviving Ophelia (read the book during those times) Now, I I am shut out.
