should i help or leave him alone

i see my twelve year old trying so hard to make friends, he is very young for his age, he has friends, but when he tries to get together with them, he seems a little obsesive, almost bugging them to hang out, he is getting older, in middle school, and wants to go out with friends for really the first time in his life, so i always feel like i need to tell him to relax, dont worry, calm down, dont push so hard, but im not sure if i should just leave him alone, that maybe he would work it all out on his own, i feel so bad for him, being at this age and trying to fit in. any advise would be great.

I am not familiar with kids this age- but I know that kids with social issues- need to be taught skills directly that otherwise come naturally for most people. They need to be taught in the same systematic way that you would teach math or reading. The question is- who is the best person to help your child develop social skills?

I have seen camps to help children lacking in social skills as well as camps that help them prepare for returning to school.

My son tries really hard and at times makes all the wrong friends. I'm teaching him the difference in good friends and those that are not so good. He is also 12. Now that he's a little older, he seems to listen a little more regarding my advice in this area, but then again I'm mom. So he tends to listen to my husband more in that arena. My husband is very stern about who he can hang around with in the neighborhood and who he should not be around.

I've also heard that most boys with adhd tend to favor their fathers more so over their.mothers. I'm not sure why that is specifically, but I do know my son literally changes for my husband. Then again I'm the one making him do his homework, get in the shower, go to bed on time, etc. etc. So that makes a big difference. Regardless, my husband really comes across more to my son in some areas than others.
