"No one likes me".

My son has the kindest, most loving heart, if only people could see past his "silly" and "annoying" traits. Yes, he is young for his age but why should that matter? We all complain that we wish we could keep our kids, kids for as long as possible! If people can't see him for what's really inside, they don't deserve to know that side of him anyway!
It hurts me so much when he comes home from school and says no one likes him :(

my son too has always been that child and still is that child that never gets invited to birthday parties. when he first started daycare he had a lot of speech issues and was not really communicating with anyone. he is 7 now and still never gets invited to birthday parties. it seems to me like the kids his age who have special needs, they never get invited to their peers birthday parties.

I always encourage my son even though he has ADHD, that he needs to include those who have special needs in his day, to say hello and to set an example and invite those kids to his birthday party.

Hi. I've been on Daily Strength for five years. My son has been diagnosed ADHD since he was in sixth grade.
He has had trouble making friends and has been bullied and name called. I think that was the reason initially why he avoids meeting new kids. The potential for bullying is great.

This touches me so much. My son struggles with his self confidence but still shows everyone how kind amazing and outgoing he is. The advice I always give him when he talks about people being mean or not liking him is that if they cant appreciate how amazingly awesome you are then they aren't the kind of kids you should worry about being friends with. That being said we are in a much more tolerant school that does not put up with bullying so he is doing much better now :)
