If a child has any special needs, everyone is so sympathetic. which is great. they should be. we go out of our way to open a door if a child cant walk. or if they have autism. we reach out to the family, we cant imagine how hard that is for them. But adhd. thats different. you are shunned. nobody acknowledges it. they think its your kid, or you. he's annoying. you dont know how to handle him. it is an unspoken topic about what we go through. and the parents are the worst. they ask there kids to stay away from him instead of being patient. they dont explain his issues because they dont get it. I just find it so interesting.

I know exactly where your coming from. My son that is 6 1/2 was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago. I knew before taking him to his doctor that he had it. He started to show signs at the age of two. His doctor had made a few comments to me but we had to wait until he was of school age. The older he has gotten the worse the ADHD has gotten. People really don't understand. I just wanted to say I know how you feel and its not fair. I strongly believe that all the stuff they have started allowing to be put in our foods and all the new vaccines have something to do with the massive increase in ADHD. Nothing else major has changed. Think about it 20 some years ago when we were kids there weren't nearly as many vaccines and there weren't nearly as many processed foods and genetically modified foods. Again that's just my opinion and I know others may not agree. And it really doesn't matter what the cause is, It would just be nice for people to be more understanding. I'm always getting looks from other people when I am out with my kids and my son starts acting up. I have to remain calm and keep my cool or he gets really out of control. My mother had a guy approach her at my older sons football game last week because my son that has ADHD had kicked a couple kids. He was the father of one of them. My son had been good the whole time we had been there, he was just down playing with all the other kids, he misunderstands social cues from other kids and is a few years behind his age in maturity and he got upset over something a kid said so he kicked him. Well this guy yelled at my mom telling her that it was inappropriate for my son to be kicking people and where is his mother he should be better supervised. That made me feel horrible. I could see him from where I was sitting and he was being good every time I checked on him. I also have a 2yr old daughter and my husband was at work so I had to keep track of both kids while trying to watch my 8yr old son play football. Its overwhelming. My own family doesn't even understand what a struggle it is. Then when they are around they just try to take over and boss my son around and be strict with him which just makes him act out more, its so stressful. I actually spoke up the other day when my 15yr nephew started in with bossing my son and telling me on him for him going down to play, so I just straight up told him, I'm his mom I can handle him butt out. People really haven't the slightest clue how hard it is for parents of children with ADHD unless they have a child with it. Its even harder when your an adult that's had it all your life and went through the same struggles you see your child going through and have to try to deal with having adult ADD and a son with ADHD.

Totally agree - very hard, some days I envy my friend who has a kid with cancer because at least people understand that-how very sad that is and who would ever believe it. I never would have before living it!

Yes, it's hard. It gets better! There are always going to be ignorant people who will judge you. Please don't let these people have the power to make you feel bad! I used to cry everyday when my son was younger, so I get it. He is much better now, but will never be the same as the other kids. So what? They are all different and that is what make the world an interesting place. The difference between now and back when I was a kid is that they used to just label these kids as weird and leave it at that. At least there is dialogue today! Don't be discouraged!

its heartbreaking because he sees his siblings have friends and go out and he kind of just stays home. i feel so bad for him even though he seems ok next year he goes to high school, so im sure it will get better then, just praying for a few friends this year. just a few

My 7 yr. old grandson tells me nobody wants to be his friend. It makes me so sad that I cry (when he isn't looking of course!). I will pray that your son will have some friends this year, as I know it would help him a lot especially w/other siblings who are social.

I think it's very hard for ADHD kids to make friends. My 9-yo gs has ADHD and he just isn't understood by other kids. He is slow in school and last year was made fun of a lot. Thankfully his teachers understand him and are simply in love with him. A lot of times, I have found that loud and "very active" situations and crowds affect them in an adverse way.

It breaks my heart when my daughter tries to make friends with other kids. She is too high energy for most kids and after playing with her for a few minutes, they cannot keep up and stay away from her. Its very heartbreaking and its sad to hear her say no one wants to be her friend. I wish I could be there for her 24/7. She is getting depressed as she feels she tries so hard and is so nice yet can't see why kids don't like playing with her. Even though she's three; she has the understanding and maturity of an 8 year old. Even her grammar and speech is that of a much older kid.

I agree 100% with you it's sad that it happend to my son from my family

I absolutely agree 100%!! Taking your children with ADHD out in public is such a challenge and then to have everyone judge and stare at you doesn't make it any better. I mean who can afford a nanny to help out everyday when you need to run errands. People don't understand the stress, anxiety, tears and heartache we go through!
