I wish I had an answer for you...I know how it is though. My son is only 5 and has been sent home 6 days now...he was suspended last Thursday for one day...he made it to 9:15am before they called to have him picked up. Well back to the point, Thursday I came home from work and he had a huge red mark on his head like he hit his head somewhere...so I asked him what happened and he told me the kids took his head and repeatedly banged it on the steps of the playground...yet my son is the one being sent home??? He also told me how the kids are all mean to him and pick on him constantly. If that's truly how it is, then I can understand why he hits them and kicks them. How would you like to be teased and picked on constantly? :( Have you tried talking to the prinicipal or maybe the school counselor? My son isn't quite in school yet, so I'm not familiar with all of the resources, but there has to be someone you can talk to regarding this.

I know what you are going through. First off , You are his best advocate. The experience I have had(My son was diagnosed at the age of 7 with ADHD and generalized anxiety disorder) , were a uphill battle. My advice is this, Stop in on your sons class take a look for yourself, sometimes Special Ed teachers can be lazy, They dont want to deal with the active kids so they tend to single them out in a sense, The ones I have encountered have wanted my son "Medicated".when you do stop in come unannounced if you can. Ask questions also. Let the school and principle know you are going to stand up for your son also. I dont know what state you are from but here in Mass we have a I.E.P It is for special need kids it basically explains to the teachers the diagnosis and sets goals for the child ,Provides transportation also. And speak to his doctor. Doctors can be a great Ally for you and your son. You also have the right for weekly reports. I(At least in Mass we do). having an 11 year old, you have to try to figure out how to change your sons behavior. I know its terrible to hear, but when my son was getting bullied, it was horrible, because i can tell you, when they get older, it gets unbearable, he would come home and collapse on the floor and not move, he would beg me to take him from school . it is heartbreaking. I told him, he cannot change these other kids ( who are definitly mean, i am not disputing that) he can only change his reaction to them, he needed to stay away, walk away, not even associate with them, whether negative or positive, because believe me , if they are being nice to them, it is only temporary until they can be a butt of someones jokes. you have to draw his focus in another direction,, but how do you do that, who knows, i was lucky, my son focused on school, and when he saw an improvement , he kept going, plus i had the timing of meds which all worked out, i know i am lucky, i know i reach out to the kids in my other kids grades who maybe are not, it is a tough world i feel for these poor kids, as far as the schools, they can care less, they look at you as a burden, and when you stick up for your kid, they will start to gang up on you. believe me, just keep the communication open so your kids know you are there for them, at least you will have an idea what is going on. and try not to get too upset, because they dont want to see you upset, and hurt you, they may stop telling you. its so hard . You have every right to remove your child from school and put him into another. I did this when my son was in 5th grade and the principle was getting really bad and it seemed that the teachers were siding with her out of fear (that's my observation) A couple of the teachers even pulled my son aside to tell him he shouldn't be in trouble when he was. I called a couple other elementary schools in my area and talked to the principles about my child. I immediately started the transfer paperwork and he was in a new school within a week. I also submitted a complaint to the Board of Education about the principal. It was the best move we ever made. The rest of his 5th grade year was absolutely wonderful. Can't say much for 6th & 7th though. You need to trust your gut feelings and go with it. Would you want to work for a company that allowed co-workers to harrass you and set you up to fail? Sometimes change does a lot. Granted you may end up in the same situation you are in now, eventually, but at least you tried. I would still continue with therapy if your son sees someone. If not, you may want to consider it. They do need help adjusting and coping. Good luck!

I am not sure where you are from but I know in california you can request a iep(individual education plan) or you can have you child put on a 504 plan in either case the school is mandated to follow the plan...pretty sure you can google search them to learn more. If your child is in a public school be careful they will try to talk you out of the plans...too much work for them...also my own personal experience my son was identified Gate (gifted and talented) however because of his poor academic performance he was put into classes with the kids who didn't want to be in school or were trouble makers which caused him to be bullied. Needless to say I did not find that out until 3 weeks were left in his 8th grade year...had I known I would have demanded that they put him with the "smart" kids i think the challenge would have done him good. One last thing my son didnt have behavior problems just academics. I think if these kids were properly placed and teachers did what they were supossed to they might have a better chance at success

My advice. Have a group meeting with all his teachers and the principle. Tell them you want to address issues at hand.Have a list of reccomendations from your doctor and list of the issues you have .Have dates , names of involved, emails. Document every interaction with the teacher. Tell them you want a plan of action from the teachers in writing. I they refuse than address the issue with a call to the school board. Be nice the whole time. Assure everyone involved you want to reslove the problem and want whats in the best interest of your child.
A big part of the plan of action should be communication with the teacher. She should be communicating everyday when there is a crisis(fighting, unaccounted bruises, emotional distress) and weekly regardless. Any bruises you should take photos and imediately call the principle. Document everything!!! I am telling you this works.
Make it clear what you will except and what you will not. Put it on them.
I live in Atlanta, ga . My daughters teachers email me almost daily. I am nice as i can be but they know not to cross me. Make sure you acknowledge how hard they work, little gifts go a long way.
