I have considered this option too - But our doctor said no. He said that for a child like mine it might be a worse decision than leaving him in school. He said that children like this have to learn from their mistakes. So, I went in and attempted to educate my child's teachers about his behaviors. We are doind semi-ok with reactions. I have asked them to attempt to keep him on track by simply stating what he needs to do - not asking him to do something. And, as for the children - role play.....role play.....role play. I actually did this with my son - It came to the time where I was the "bully" and I didn't act very nice towards him. He completely lost it. Cried and told me that I was a mean person. Since then, we haven't had a problem.

I just had to homeschool our son for a few weeks while he was on medical leave with an eating disorder (on top of his other disorders, including ADHD). It is very, very, very difficult. Kids don't treat parents the same way as teachers. To him, I was nagging when I was trying to get him to do school work. When the district finally got its act together and sent the home hospitalization teacher, you wouldn't believe the difference. He completely respected her, listened to her and gained so much. It helped a lot that she is a trained teacher and really knew how to make the work exciting and engaging in ways that I did not.

Is your son seeing a behavioral therapist? If not, I'd got that route first. Get some strategies in place that he can use when he feels angry at school. Also ask the school psychologist if the school has considered forming a social skills group for kids like him. Ours did that last year with our son and it was really helpful. The kids were pulled out of class once a week to talk about how to handle various situations at school.

We just saw my sons doctor yesterday, he changed his medicine to one for bipolar. He said a lot of his behavior issues point to that. He also suspects autism so he referred us to childrens hospital autism clinic to have my son tested. I know he needs to learn to deal with being around other people and to learn from his mistakes, that's the problem he doesn't learn. He simply doesn't seem to care and that scares me. I asked his doctor what he thought about me homeschooling him and he said as long as I make sure he socializes with other kids often it would be ok, there is a homeschoolers group close to where I live and they have a gym class, art class and go on lots of field trips. So socializing him wouldn't be hard to do. With all that said Im waiting to see what we find out at childrens after he is tested. Thanks so much for your advice :)

I can relate to every single statement you made. I want to homeschool my DS, but my husband isn't on board yet. I have a 5 yr old DS that started kindergarten two weeks ago. He's already been sent home twice. Like your son, my DS doesn't learn anything from it. He doesn't care that he's getting in trouble or that he's causing so much trouble.

I don't know that I agree with these situations being best for kids like them and that they need to learn. My son isn't getting anything positive out of this experience, our whole family is feeling stressed. I'm tied to my phone in case they call me to pick him up. Academically he's falling more and more behind. By the time I get him home he is no mood to do school work so I can catch him up.
