Hi everyone,
It's been a long time since I've been on the boards. Things have been going relatively well for my son and me. But I have an appointment with his doctor on Monday for a medication evaluation.
My son's teacher last year still found him quite fidgety in the classroom, despite his many improvements. He even got the "Most Improved Student" award last year! He's done amazingly well... aside from still fidgeting. I made an appointment with his therapist, and she said that we should reevaluate things in the Fall, to see if we need to change meds. She said at this stage (he's 11 and in Grade 6), they usually need a stronger medication, because the schools, and I guess life in general, has more expectations for them, in terms of workloads, responsibilities, etc.
In the meantime, his teacher this year doesn't really see any significant problems - or at least ones that can't be dealt with in the classroom... she says he's doing really well!! So I am wondering if I should keep him on this medication he's on. I really want to, because he's had virtually no side effects from it, and it's obviously working for him to be doing so much better at home and in school.
For anyone who has a "tween", or for anyone whose child has been on the same medication for a longer period of time.. any thoughts? Do they kind of level off at some point and they need something stronger? Or do you find that as they get older, they don't seem to do all they should? Or can you stay on the same medication for a long period of time and it's fine?

We just started him on 20mg of Vyvanse today at the recommendation of his developmental pediatrician, because Nick (my son) mentioned that the Concerta made him "feel like a sinking ship". So far so good...
I would say give it a little time first. Tell the doctor that you would like to wait, since his teacher & you are seeing positive results. The best thing you can do is let him be the barometer. You'll know if he needs a change.
