Parents of Children with ADHD Support Group
This community is designed as an open forum where the parents and guardians of children with ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) can give and receive support, as well as discuss ideas, techniques, concerns, surprises, and challenges they may face with their children.
Has anyone tried bio-feedback as a treatment? What exactly is it and how does it work.
With neurofeedback, they put these sensors on the head that detect brain activity. Kids focus on a special video game. If they lose focus, the game stops working. The theory is that over time, it helps train the brain to focus better. If it's going to work, it takes a significant number of sessions to see results.
I'm still looking into it. There's a good chapter about this in "Buzz: A Year of Paying Attention" where the journalism mom and her son both go through it. She sees improvement as a result.
A big government study of neurofeedback as an ADHD treatment is supposed to be released this year. That should give some scientific proof one way or the other on whether it's a reliable treatment option like medication.
