My son is 6 1/2 and has ADHD and will soon be getting tested to see if he is on the autism spectrum. He is obsessed with TV. To the point where he wakes up early before school to watch it even though hes not allowed, he comes in the door from school and runs to the living room and turns the TV on when he knows homework must be done first. Its all he wants to do. My husband and I limit him to 1 hr a day but he constantly goes and turns it on then we have to turn it off and deal with the fits he throws. Is it normal for a child with ADHD to be so obsessed with TV? And now its one show that he wants to watch and only that show. Its on Netflix and he has watched it so much it put us over our limit of usaged for our internet. Thanks

Not so much on the TV, tablet or tech stuff - he likes it but will walk away to do something else -at 11 he sits more to watch things but at age 6-7 would have preferred to be out digging a hole in the yard:)

With my son it is video games. He has a Wii and a D.S. We do not allow him any game time during the school week. Period. But on the weekends we let him play a couple of hours Saturday and Sunday. If we let him, he would probably play 12 hrs a day, everyday. He talks about the video games all week long at 100 mph - it's obvious that this is what he is always thinking about. He talks about the game characters, how he would beat a bad guy, etc. It drives me nuts :)

mine is, he can watch it all day. I hate it, not sure what to do about it either.

@lowen22 I don't know what to do about it either. He's such a smart kid even if we put parental controls on he figures a way around them. I'm going to address it with his Doctor and see what he says.

My child would rather destroy my things - He has thought of some pretty interesting ways to use my makeup, lotion - oh - and now my deodrant......I think every child has that one thing that they are obsessed with. Your's is TV, mine is destroying Mommy's stuff. I have learned to leave my inexpensive stuff out so he feels like he is really "getting" me while keeping everything else in a hiding spot. Have you tried to hide the remote? Our TV is on the wall so he wouldn't be able to reach the power button if he wanted to. I have also learned with my son that if you show a negative reaction when you find out that he has done something that is "naughty" he tries to out do himself. That could be a part of the problem.....How do you react when he is watching TV when he isn't supposed to? Just a thought - Hope it helps :)

My son likes to destroy things to, he has kinda settled down on that now. I try not to show much emotion when I catch him watching tv when hes not supposed to be, but Im not always successful. Sometimes I let my frustration show and he throws more of a fit. I could hide the remote but our tv isn't up on the wall so he can turn it on from the side, however he cant turn the channels on the satellite or get to Netflix. So that's a good idea. I should put the tv on a really boring channel then turn it off and hide the remotes. :) Although knowing my son he will get really angry and throw something when he cant find the remotes so its sort of a loose loose situation for me. But im going to try it anyways :) thanks JJLILLIE

oh and the things my son likes to destroy would be our brand new 55" flat screen T.V he ran a beyblade (spinning top like toy) across the screen less than a month after we bought it. He took a flat head screw driver to my wall and stuck it in repeatedly. He took a metal file that a man would use in a garage and ran it down my back window of my new GMC Acadia not long after we bought it putting a bunch of scratches on the glass and he has also put other scratches on my vehicle. This list goes on and on. I really cant figure out why he likes to destroy stuff. He also likes to kill/squish bugs, worms, frogs which is disgusting and weird.
