Hello, I was wondering if anyone else's child has dealt with bullies? My son is 8 but he is repeating the 1st grade. He usually doesn't take anyone picking on him. Up until recently. He has four boys bullying him at recess at school. We wont have to worry about it after schools out this year because we are homeschooling him next year. But for now we have 4 weeks of school left. It started out they were just running their mouths to him and calling him stuff like brown eyed weirdo etc. Well I told him to just try to stay away from them and ignore them. Well they took it a step further and got physical. They all walked up and stole the basketball he was playing with so he walked away and went to swing. Well they followed him and all four boys pushed my son off the swing onto the ground, he asked them to stop and why they pushed him and they said because hes a bratty little weirdo. So again he walks away and this time two of the boys follow him and when he gets on the hand glider thing they grab his arm and pull him off onto the ground and asks them to leave him alone and they do it two more times. I asked why he didn't tell a teacher, he said he couldn't find the teacher. Its ridiculous they only have two adults outside with over 50 kids. So all that happened and no one saw it as far as teachers. So the next day I went to the school and talked to the principle and my sons teacher. They told my son if they boys do it again to look until he finds the teacher and tell on them. So that was yesterday, so when my son came home I asked him how recess went and he said fine. He said those four boys came over and started their bullying and he told them to leave him alone. He said they walked away and left him alone after that. Im worried that wasn't the end of it. My son is small for his age and there is four of them. I personally think the principle should've went out to recess with my son and had him point them out and they should be disciplined even if its just a few inside recesses. They need to realize that this behavior isn't acceptable. So what would you do if this was your child being bullied and they don't stop?

ive had many issues with bullying and it is the worst. I always tell my kids you cant change them but you can change yourself. but your boy is so young, its very hard to give him advise on what to do with 4 bullys, but i would push the school to monitor it. ask them to contact you with updates . when my son was bullied, the teacher in the class had no clue, she thought they were friends. it is amazing how smart and manipulative these kids get. and it seems the school tends to take the side of the bully because it makes them look less at fault. its a tough situation. I also wouldnt ask your son every day. he will pick up on that and create situations to get attention. let him come to you about it, brush off the situations that arent drastic. if they walked away, just say good , and move on. dont harp on it. it may go away on its own. good luck

Thanks lowen22. He came to me about them bullying him. He came straight home the first day and hurried through his homework and then ran and got on the play station. I asked him why he was playing that already instead of playing outside and he said I had a bad day mom. I asked why his day was bad and then he told me about the boys. I then encouraged him to just ignore them and try to stay away from them. He then came home the next day and told me all on his own about them pushing him off the swing and pulling him off the glider. I went to the school and let the principle and his teacher know what was going on. I said nothing else to my son about it and he told me about telling them to leave him alone and they did. I haven't heard anything else since that which was two days ago and I haven't asked, because of exactly what you said. If I keep brining it up he could start making it sound worse than it is for attention. I doubt he would because he's actually the opposite and doesn't like getting attention but just in case I played it safe and didn't ask I just let him come to me. And your right it always seems like the school is on the bully's side. I had troubles with bullies when I was in school and it always seemed like I was the one punished for their bad behavior so I quit telling and dealt with it on my own. I left the school and went to a Christian school :)

Yup, my daughter started a new school in December of 2nd grade and was bullied by a girl immediately,Very subtle like she would tell my daughter, "Give me your pencil or will tell the teacher it was mine and you took it", telling rumors about her, ect. It was more emotional not physical. The principal has an obligation to do something, no one has to see it,those boys should be called to the office and talked to, that is all it took in our situation. With all the news on bullying remind them it is in their best interest to be proactive. Your son should not have to be anxious about going to school. They are opening themselves up to a lawsuit and remind them if anything happens you will hold them responsible. Also solicit help from the school counselor. The woman at my daughters school started a buddy group where 4 or 5 girls(including the bully girl) ate lunch in her office 1x a week and talked about what it means to be friends, how to treat people, ect. and it really helped. They are so young one trip to the office may be all it takes, their parents should be there too. Looking the other way only reinforces the behavior, and next year it will be some other poor kids turn. Don't let the school PooPoo this away, this is serious. This topic is close to my heart, let me know if I can help, I have done a lot of research on this topic

@bonnieboo11 Im so sorry to hear that your daughter had to deal with that as soon as she started a new school. Some kids these days are just way to mean and good a hiding it around adults. The last couple days of this past week the boys weren't at recess. So Im going to wait and see if they are back on Monday. Im thinking about asking what time my sons recess is and going over there when he has recess and catching them in the act myself. Your right... if they don't get punished for bullying my son this year even though he wont be there next year they will find another kid to pick on.
