So I am coming to realize that my son may always be different, but Im starting to accept it and maybe even enjoy it. today we had "the relative" you know them, they have only girls and they are perfect, or worse, no kids at all, and they look at you sideways when your son finds enjoyment performing nonstop crazy uncontrollable antics that have no meaning. Lol. . anyway. now, my son just turning 14, is probably like an 11 year old. which to all of you with younger ones, take off three years, and it is unbearable. but now. I actually just stood back, let him go ( no meds keep in mind in the summer), and I truly enjoyed him. he was hysterical. he was so sweet too. kept looking at me, trying to compose himself every now and then. I a, starting to realize, he is different. but he is him, and he is perfect and great. at the end of the day, usually he would be read the riot act. I said, " hey, you were great today, thanks". he was so happy, it really gets better my friends. but keep in mind. three days ago, i was ready to ring his neck. thats our life.

Great post and so true! My son is 14 as well and off meds for the summer. We had a huge party on the weekend and I was really worried but he did great. He joins in the fun and hangs out for a while, then he goes to his room for some alone time before returning. He did this all evening and it was perfect. He is bright and funny but socially awkward. Keep in mind, a lot of 14 year old boys are that way anyhow. Read a bit about Steve Jobs and you realize that different is often really good!

Well Said!!! What Made You Want To Stop The Meds In The Summer? Reason I'm Asking I Wanted To Do The Same With My Son. But My Wife Really Fought Me On It. She's Home With Him In The summer. So I Don't Fight It To Much. Because She's The One DealingWith Him During The Day. But I Would Love To See How It Would Go

Thank you!!!! You will never know how much that post just meant to me. I am a single mom and dealing with this alone( I do have supportive friends and family). I love my son so much but it's difficult everyday when I pick him up I have to hear all the bad he has done. He is a very sweet and loving child (almost 8 years old), I wish these people could see the child I see.

We stop them because he feels a little blah on them. Loss of appetite, weight loss, headaches. Not horrible, but not great. We use it strictly for school. Others may have different reasons.

fatherofADHD - meds in summer - All kids are different - Our whole family would not function if we took our son of the medications...he also doesn't complain of side effects when on them. Different drugs/different kids/different family dynamics
