Well my son finally crapped out at school. He is refusing to do any work in Science, Math and English and has been kicked out of Art class. He will fail these classes for the final Hexter. Thank Goodness he did well in the other 5 hexters so he won't fail 7th grade. They are going to start dismissing him at 11:45 beginning this Friday and his last day will be May 24th rather than the scheduled June 1st. I meet with the school officials tomorrow morning to discuss placement for next year when he enters the 8th grade. It looks like I have lost the battle against Alternative School. The good news is, I have been looking into these schools and talking to special ed teachers and directors from all over the city and they have helped me change my perspective and steroptype thoughts of kids in these types of schools. Smaller classes with more help and less stress. I am hoping that this will do the trick. I am hoping that other's won't judge my son based on the fact that he goes to an alternative school and not allow their child to hang out with mine, but I am sure there will be some. I also dread telling my son the news, he is going to be so upset. Hopefully he'll understand why we did this after he attends for a while. I hope I am doing the right thing here.

Well I went to tour the alternative school yesterday and I think it would be a better place for my son. He was able to make it through this week without too much trouble and was allowed to throw the shot put and discus in the Distric Track Meet yesterday. He got 2nd place in the shotput event. Then he went to school today and crapped out again. I talked to our therapist and his resource teacher and we all decided that he has exceeded his stress level threshold at this point so they have excused him from school for the remainder of the year. He will pass 7th grade. It's over...for now. I am relieved yet sad that it ended this way. I hope the alternative school will help him next year.

I am hoping for that too maybe it will be easier for him in two fold he will get to meet kids with simlir issues and he will have teachers better equiped to deal with these typs of issues. it jus sucks to always be the odd man out

Yeah, you're right about that. My son hates to be different but always has academically and physically. I think it will help top be around kids with similar issues. It's hard for him to have the learning disabilities, he's 6'2" already and is only 13. People tend to treat him like he's older and in fact I would say his maturity level is only about at age 11. This is so frustrating for him. I told him he was going to alternative school last night. he didn't freak out but was upset. he did call me a bitch but it wasn't like the way he would call me that in the past. I almost felt like he was releived but felt like he should be mad...maybe, not sure. I will see over the next few days as it sinks in. he may still throw a fit. I know this is the best thing for him. Now he will get the help he needs in Reading. I recently found out that he is only reading at a 4th grade level, he's going into 8th grade. I'm a little torqued at the school for this as they removed his Reading IEP in the 6th grade so he hasn't been receiving a lot of Reading intervention classes. Frustrating! I can't imagine how inadequate he feels in this area. Well, I can see the stress in him when he comes home from school or when I have to go get him. Thank goodness they decided last Friday would be his last day.
