Advice- 9year old boy ADHD

I am at a loss. My son is going to be 10 in September. He lives with his dad during the school year and comes to me for holidays and summer. He just got home last week and I dont even feel like I know who he is. This little boy and his sister are my whole world but I do not know what to do. His dad is military and isn't a fan of meds. My son got his diagnoses in kindergarten. It was ADHD and anxiety and then some said he had ODD. His dad thinks hes just a bad kid but I know better. Or at least I think so idk I feel like i am lossing my mind sometimes. All I want to do is help him. Today was his first day at the sitters and he is very sneaky. Apparently he tried to drown a kitten and beat up a dog....this is not like my son in any way. He is actually a huge animal lover. I tried to talk to him last night prior to his first day and it took me about 20 mins to have a 5 min conversation with him. You can tell him something and no less than 30 mins later he is back to it. I know he knows right from wrong but I don't know if his brain can process it right. 


Does anyone have any tips to help me help him...?

Have you tried any medications? That would be my very first suggestion. One of my daughters can not concentrate to save her life. As much as I hated the idea of medication, it has been the only thing that has helped her to have a more regular life. There are many meds to try, that is the hardest part, but once you find something that can help them, it's truly amazing what they can conquer from there. My other daughter has anger issues, which is common in Autistic children. She is autistic and ADHD. She took Risperdone for a while and is now on Latuda. For her it was life changing when we put her on meds. She still has a tendency to gravitate towards mean or anger, but along with therapy and medications she is learning how to deal with her out of control emotions. So second most important thing to me is getting them proper therapy and help.

I truly wish you the best of luck. It's so hard and can feel so isolating.
