trying to pick a high school for my son next year. do you go with the one that is more academic and surround him more with smarter peers that he competes with to keep his grades up. ( he is doing great on meds and can maintain an A-Bt avg.). the sports are also more competetive there. ( he is a great athlete). or do i send him to a smaller school, 150 vs 220 . where the kids arent as smart, and its easier to make the sports team, it may not be as hard, but then will he do as well, very torn, and so is he.

Smaller school. I feel like a bigger one they get lost in.. I would also suggest you go visit and talk to the staff.. You can get a feel of what kind of people your son is going to be around. Talk to parents if you can about the school. I just have had my kids in both and the smaller school is my choice..

My son goes to a highschool with 1200 kids and he seems to do ok. The one good thing about a large school, is that there are all types of kids there and he doesn't stick out as much as he might in a smaller school. Good luck!

Definitely the smaller school. It provides less distraction, and kids with ADHD tend to get lost in the numbers in large schools. The teachers will be more likely to notice if the meds are no longer working effectively.

My 15 year old attends a large high school, and, to be honest, it is exhausting trying to keep on top of his 504 plan and make sure all teachers and staff are on board. Each quarter seems to have it's own catastrophe. My son is also extremely smart, which is why the school won't put him on an IEP.
