This community is designed as an open forum where the parents and guardians of children with ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) can give and receive support, as well as discuss ideas, techniques, concerns, surprises, and challenges they may face with their children.
My son has been on Biphentin for a little over a month now. He was doing well on 15mg with minimal side effects but I upped it to 20mg because his teachers were still reporting some difficulties. This week, though, on the 20mg, I am noticing quite a bit of motor tics (arm twitching, and even more noticable, head nodding.) and it seems to be getting worse over the past few days. His after school program mentioned it to me yesterday as well.
Of course, just my luck... our appt with his doctor isn't until May 25th, and our therapist is on vacation until June 1st. I was forwarded to someone else this morning on the phone but I left a couple of messages and haven't gotten any response back.
I'm just wondering how urgent this is. What do you guys think.. Should I just go back down to the 15mg and see if it decreases? Or should I pull him off this medication altogether until we have our doc appt? It's still nearly two weeks away. But could this lead to tourettes, or could it get worse? I'm so worried!
It also sucks because he was doing SO well on this medication, and now this. :(

I'm not familiar with that medication but I was doing that with my gd's Straterra for awhile and now she takes 35 mg all at once.
I actually spoke to another therapist in the office who advised me to go back down to the 15, just as you said, spamula. But thank you for that suggestion, Ladyrltr.. we go on Monday to see the psychiatrist so I will mention that to him as well.
Im sorry to hear about the tics disorder.
I just wanted to say if this new med is time release then breaking it would not be a good idea, I dont know if this would be worse, but I do know breaking a time release med will be even more powerful cause then he would get it all at once and instead of through out the day.
I suggest calling your pharmasist, I agree to go back to 15mg. but try to get in to see someone, do they have a Dr. on call for emergency?
I just learned about Tics lst night on 2o/20
