My son was diagnosed with ADHD about 1 1/2 years ago. He has been showing aggression and anger more often and more violently for a few months. I spoke with his Dr. she increased his anxiety med by 10mg and kept the ADHD meds the same. Said it was normal for him to be this way sometimes. His therapist gave me suggestions to help diffuse the situation and to avoid the meltdowns. However, none of it seems to be helping. Most recently, he had an incident last night. He was attacking me physically, calling me a "stupid b***h", screaming, banging on the walls, etc. I tried to walk away and give him time to cool down, to talk to him, and every other suggestion ive been given. I did not get aggressive back. Verbally or Physically. Nothing worked. For about 1.5 hours. His father and i divorced when he was 2. He hasnt been angry towards me until recently. He will say things such as how he hates being with me because i have rules and his dad lets him do whatever he wants. His dad is an alcoholic. I am going to court next month to get full custody after an incident last month where my son was in his custody and witnessed him knock himself unconscious while drinking. I have never spoken ill of his father in front of him. He continues to seem to want to intenionally hurt my feelings about how much he would rather be with his dad because my rules are stupid. I dont know if this is normal. I can not continue to be attacked by my son verbally and physically. Is there something else going on possibly with his mental health? Is this level of aggression in a 7 year old normal given the circumstances? Please help. I am desperate. I love my son, but i dont know how to help him. And i am mentally and emotionally exhausted. Any advice welcome. Thank you.
