I have an 11 year old with ADHD and he is on treatment. Concerta and it works well, at least until recently. He is also on depression medication, but we just switched him to a new med and he has been so angry and won't listen to a thing. It's difficult to get him to do his homework and he is getting in trouble at school. I can't stop crying about this, I'm depressed myself and it is really causing a lot of problems at home. I love my son very much but I just don't know what to do anymore.

First, take time to take care of yourself. If you feel you can get out of your depression, talk to a doctor. I had to go on an anti-depressant because of all of our son's issues. It got to the point where I just dreaded getting up in the morning, knowing what he was going to put me through. I feel a lot more capable of dealing with him now that I'm in better shape myself.

Also know you're not alone. I think many of us can relate to exactly what you're going through with your son. ADHD is so, so difficult and when you add in all of the comorbid conditions that tend to come along with it, it can be a nightmare.

Does your son have a behavioral therapist? If not, check into getting one. It can be really helpful to have an expert to talk to when behavior gets off-track. At the very least, you get reassurance you're doing all the right things.
