I am new to this group and feel so alone sometimes. I have two sons in the prison system, due to drugs mainly heroin. I have three children and who in the world has two boys this happens to? I question every day, my parenting skills, I am an educator so I know better. Their dad has also used, after our divorce. I honestly, don't know how this will get better, prison system is not right. Want to make a difference! Laurie

I am so very, very sorry for your pain. Please don't blame yourself. It is NOT your fault anymore than if your children suffered from diabetes or any other chronic condition like that.

I hope that you are reaching out and getting help for yourself. This is one step. Another is to find an Al Anon group, if you haven't already. I don't know how I would have survived without this amazing group of people who "get it". There is no judgement. Only acceptance and love. My best to you.

I too feel your pain. I have watched my son struggle w his addiction for 6 years now. Even now when he has been living in another ther state for more than a year and, as far as I know, been clean for 7 months or so out of rehab. I still find myself blindsided by waves of grief. What could I have done differently, where did it all go wrong are my favorite games of self torture. Then I remember that my son has a disease. His disease comes w a lot of awful side effects, but so do other neurologically based illnesses. You and I did not cause our children’s illnesses. We need to remind ourselves of this every day and find people in your life who do not blame you either. Kids from all kinds and f homes are being washed up in this great epidemic. Anyone who does not realize that is either too stupid or too scared to be part of your life. All the best to you.
