Parents of Addicts Community Group
A safe group for Mothers and Fathers of addicts, where we can share feelings, and ask for feedback.
I am struggling with my daughter being away in recovering because her therapist tells her every week that her addiction has made me sick. Though I do not deny that I have certainly done things to enable my daughter including not following my gut I really struggle with these comments since this therapist has not spent more than 10 minutes on the phone with me at anyone time. This came shortly after my daughter was discharged from partial hospitalization to IOP and the recovery organization dropped the ball and I questioned how this could happen. First, I was notified on Tuesday that they wanted 900 dollars on Friday for the sober house. I was told they would take my daughter and whoever else was moving to IOP food shopping for the basics. On the day of discharge I received a phone call from my daughter telling me her cell phone was disabled when they turned it back on, the gift cards we sent two weeks earlier were lost, and they did not take her shopping( lucky I sent her a nice care package). She was left at the sober house without orientation and no phone numbers of the house manager and no phone to call anyone. She was expected to figure out how to get 80 blocks to Walmart without having the ability to look up the bus stop or call for an Uber. She called me and I arranged for an Uber on my card and paypal her money to get a phone so she could at least have some way to communicate and get herself around. After Walmart I received another phone call from my daughter crying that she was now at a Coffee place because she couldn't get into the sober house because no one gave her the acces code without any internet on her phone I called the recover main number and told them where she was and all she needed was the code to get into the house. Shortly after this I noticed she began to report more and more about the therapist telling her I was sick. In reality I know she needs to figure things out for herself but she did not have any phone numbers but mine. I am fearful that this will drive my daughter away from finishing the last few months of recovery. Since I am visiting my daughter in a week I offered the therapist an opportunity to meet with both of us on a day I am available. The therapist has yet to address this offer.
I am finding myself very stressed everytime my daughter calls with worrying about her. I also should mention I believe what she says because the therapist has told me the same thing on the phone.
Just looking for support- and advice
Thanks

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It wasn't like that where I went. I was in a hospital detox for 4 days and then went though a 3 week IOP which was 5 hours in the evening. That way, I could keep my job.
After the IOP, I went through 3 months of group counseling. It all helped when you put it together...
No you are not to blame for your child's addiction. I think, what he was telling you is based on what addiction does to families. Certainly, if she was not an addict, she wouldn't be having the problems she is having and then attempting to worry you over them.
I remember when I was a kid and my parents were drinking, I would be scared to death that they were killing themselves...no scared isn't the right word, I would be mortified that they drank until they passed out. Alcohol eventually took my mothers life and I swore never to touch the stuff. Fast forward 30 years and I am dealing with financial issues, a failing marriage and a boss at my job who I can't stand. I started with narcotic pain killers and began drinking when I couldn't find any more pills. When I reached my Low, I got help. That was 12 years ago and now I have a wonderful life.
You see what your child's addiction is doing to her, but look at what her addiction is doing to YOU!
