You will talk to him. I can understand the urgency but just pray. Maybe he had every intention of calling you but chickened out. Perhaps he needs some time. As time goes on and the drugs are out of his system he will most likely connect with you. In the meantime, maybe your daughter can FB the friend back and ask him to relay a message to your son that you love him? Just a thought. Prayers and (((((HUGS)))))

Wow, a lot to digest for you. Hopefully once your son knows that you accept him that will lead him to getting some help for the drugs. But the fact that you are there for him is wonderful. I hope you are able to talk to him soon. My thoughts are with you.

Hi Marg, I have four kids also and my 24 year old son is an addict. It has been very hard on me as a single parent to deal with his addiction. He's been in trouble with the law and yes, it's tough to think about but when he's in jail its a relief knowing that he's not on the streets. Until a few months ago I tried everything.. Got him into rehab twice, it turns out that all he wanted was a place to sleep for a while and off he goes. I told him that I can't afford to do this anymore. Addictions counselors have told me to stop wasting my money on him and if he really wants to get better then he can check himself into detox, then rehab.

As parents we want to do what we can, but in this situation I have learned that I have to let a lot go. It's heartbreaking. My other three kids don't want anything to do with him, but as the parent it's the most difficult thing to go through. Hang in there Marg as there is always hope. I have met people who were on the streets and the following year they are working as addictions counselors. Take care Marg. God bless.

Hi Marg, the stories I read on here breaks my heart. One of my friends is gay and had many issues growing up. I understand you don't know if its true, but if it is keep the communication open if you can. My friend didn't have the addiction issues himself but grew up in a family that did and his home was a 24 hour party house. When he finally told his parents his mom had a hard time with it, but accepted it. His dad however turned his back on him and that totally crushed him. He hasn't spoke to his dad in over 10 years. He has had much therapy to get through it and is close to his mom because she was there for him.

I'm not saying to be enabling, but if he is really ready for help then be there for him. You sound like a caring person, he will reach out when he's ready. Meanwhile take care of you.

Thanks for all the support. He finally called today! I was shaking when I talked to him, he sounded good, strong, clearheaded. He has court tomorrow and thinks he will only get about 4 months. I doubt that and I asked him what his plans were for when he is released. He said he did not know, I asked him about going to this wonderful two year treatment program offered in the city next to ours and he so I have to think about it. I then let him know that his friend had told me everything. That I know he is Gay and that I DON"T CARE. I told him the entire family loves him no matter what and that we don't want him to die! He said he was just pretending to be gay. I told him I knew he would say that and its ok. I told him when he is ready to admit it I will be here for him. I told him to write to me and I honestly have no idea if he is gay or not but the person who told me he was knew so much about my son that he would have only told him this if he trusted him, and what good would that person have to gain by telling lies.... He was trying to help me understand the inner turmoil my son has been suffering with since he ws 12.
I am just so relieved to have finally spoken to my son and being able to tell him how I feel...... it was a good call and I pray it was good for him...
