It's hard enough dealing with one son but now our other son's drinking problem has reared it's ugly head with the help of a girlfriend breakup.

I thought I was doing well but it's hard when you and your spouse don't see eye to eye. For the major part of this whole thing we are doing fine but when any decisions (tough love) need to be made - my husband wimps out. My husband wants to pay our youngest son's court fees - I don't - especially when I discovered he was huffing. Since our son started this mess almost 4 years ago, he hasn't had any real consequences. As a juvenile - house arrest a few times but that's it.

On the other hand, I am not going to pretend I'm perfect and that I have all of the answers because my husband just pointed out a double standard I have. I paid our middle son's court fee only because he has a job and I know he's paying us back. Our middle guy has a blossoming drinking problem because of the recent breakup of his girlfriend. He is very depressed. We've been down this road before when he was in high school and I guess paying the fee was my way of protecting myself in a way. His depression episode was so bad that the thought of revisiting it again was too much to bear. I should have had the same rules for him as my other son.

Let Go and Let God - I guessed I slipped. Just don't know how to deal with my husband sometimes. I've let go regarding how he wants to do things but sometimes.......... I guess I will just have t adjust to the new situation with our middle guy.
