Daughter checked in to detox first time

I could use some input here. My daughter who is a heroin addict has checked in to detox. I missed her call so I was unable to talk to her directly. Her dad did talk to her but I have not had a chance to really talk to him. Her friend told me about the detox (that was the number she called me from) and said she really needed it and she is trying to talk her in to at least outpatient treatment when she gets out. She (the friend) said she gave a thumbs up as she went in and she will call her in a week when she gets out. The friend says she is clean I point blank asked her. This is the first time she has ever (as far as I know) reached out for any type of help. I live 10 hours away, he Dad is there. I am wondering if I should get on a flight and be there when she gets out for support and if she want to come home with me great. She is 31 years old. UGH Suggestions would be wonderful since I know I cannot do what I want to do and be there, bring her here and keep her safe.

o man, i"m sorry nobody provided input.
i have been there in the situation with son on heroin, and was in and out of rehabs/detoxes many times.

My vote would be for not going there. This is her path. Her life to make decisions with. Letting our parental selves be a soft place for them to fall does not help growth.

Having said that, I know how big the urge is also. Each person has to go with their own feelings on these matters.

Hopefully since you posted this your daughter is doing better?? I know as parents we want to help them, to support them, love them...But as you know addiction can go on for years and we want to help but sometimes make it worse by enabling. But always remember there is HOPE.

Sorry to say :( she did not stay. She stayed I guess for 2 days and told a friend who lent her money UGH that she felt like she checked her self into jail. She left me a mothers day message late at night knowing I would be a sleep. That is all her dad and I have heard from her.

At least she's been thinking about it. They say addicts make many attempts before one takes hold, and it might be a good idea to count this is as one of those attempts. My own son did try off and on for years, but finally, subtly, we saw him working his way out of it. I think by then, all the counseling at all the rehabs and all the meetings finally got in through the fog, and he was able to put it to work. he's been clean 4 or 5 years now and is working on that high school diploma he missed out on due to addiction; he should have it in a couple weeks. But getting to that stable point and making it stick is a big job for addicts. At least she wants to try.

My daughter has had no contact with me or her dad Since she left me a voice mail on Mothers day, of course she called when she knew I would be in bed asleep. That was the only contact since she had talked to her dad saying she was going into detox. The only other time she had no contact with us was when she was on the run. I had a relative check to see if she had warrants out and she does not. This is not like her to go so long just to call and say Hi I was thinking about you or just to leave a message via voice mail or facebook. I am wondering how to flush her out? she is not in contact with anyone we would know and at least with her felony if something happened to her they could identify her. Only good her dad and I have found out of her felony, is he DNA on file. any suggestions are welcome

Hi lainca! I hope you have heard from her and have some peace of mind. I had stopped checking this spot because so few people post but would love to see it come back.
