My son is doing better! He is not always sober - although he is not drinking at all, he sometimes uses pot and admitted to trying LSD, too. On the hand, he has held down a job for almost a year now, is increasingly independent, goes to meetings every day, has a steady girlfriend and just let us know he got into college.
It's good sometimes. It's bad sometimes. But it isn't awful. I don't know how to move out of crisis mode! I don't even know if should! Do you ever stop holding your breath?

Hi missmaple. It's great to hear that your son is holding down a steady job, that's a great sign. Getting into college, excellent! A girlfriend can be a great thing as well. Those are great things that have happened. The pot, well the thing is, at least in my area the views are very liberal, and with Montel and even politicians endorsing pot for medicinal purposes it's not viewed the same way as in the past. But I know that it is still a gateway drug towards harder drug use. The LSD use is not good but so far it sounds like strides have been achieved and that you have bright things that has happened to be thankful for. I'm hope that I can be in your position as my son has entered rehab again and I'm praying for the same direction that your son has taken.

I will pray for your son, you and your family. I understand about the crisis mode but please count your blessing and take some breaths of fresh air. Take care :)

I understand exactly what your feeling, almost like you cant exhale.... you can, good news is now its your turn to take back your life and build yourself back up...congratulate him on his great days and have stringent boundaries on his bad days,,,he knows what its like to be both on and off the tracks and the choice is solely his..you have done a fantastic job, you have been supportive now let his paths be his and build yourself back up and regain your "self" you so deserve it

Alcohol is the "gateway drug" it is, and always will be. Cannabis doesnt make you lose your inhibitions or give anyone "beer balls" so to speak , like alcohol does. Nor do people want to commit crimes after using cannabis. Or rape Women , become violent, etc etc etc. Sadly, alcohol will always be legal ( the Government makes too much $ from it, as it does from Cigarettes. And we all know booze and cigs kill more people than all illegal drugs, combined. PS. I also believe that legal drug pushers (Doctors) should be hung and suffer long long painful deaths.
