Parenting 'Tweens (9-12) Support Group
This community is focused on the joys, challenges and concerns faced by parents of tweens (9 to 11 year olds). The major areas of child development include: physical development, perception and sensory development, communication and language development, cognitive development, emotional development and social development.
But, I think the best thing I ever read about this, and tried it and it worked, was this:
When the tantrum starts, wherever you are, calmly, peacefully, just walk away, as far as you can get without placing the kid in harm and pretend to be interested in something else.
I did that at age 3 at the grocery store and that was a turning point for my and my kid. Seriously, I was in checkout and my kid was in the aisle behind me, so I left checkout and walked about 20 feet away as though someone was calling to me, pretending my kid wasn't even with me (I could see him and the store was not very crowded) and pretended to read an article in a rag mag. He was stunned and immediately stopped. It was kind of funny actually.
I'm guessing that would still work at age 9 haha. Hope something works for you. We all need some peace, right?
