Parenting 'Tweens (9-12) Support Group
This community is focused on the joys, challenges and concerns faced by parents of tweens (9 to 11 year olds). The major areas of child development include: physical development, perception and sensory development, communication and language development, cognitive development, emotional development and social development.
Hi, thought I would introduce myself.
I have 4 boys, two are grown and then I have a 9 and 11 year old.
The elven year old is strong willed!
The nine year old is ADHD.
I deffinately have my hands full.
I'm hard core and old fashioned, thus a very unpopular mom. But I want so badly to protect my kids as long as I can and to instill forgotten morals and manners in my two boys.
My older two boys:
22 year old (stepson) has an addiction problem. We had him in counseling but to no avail. Six months later he started drinking and had a horrible wreck that almost killed him, his brother and a friend. That was a wake up call and he has not drank since, but is now, I'm just suspicious, headed back towards marajuana and probably other stuff.
My 21 year old had ADHD as a kid and is now a pathological lier. He recently told me I no longer had a son.....all this because I asked him to thank his stepfather for the $1000.00 cash that he was given as a gift.
I can't help but think the problems the older two have are the results of their parents divorcing.
That's enough whinning for now:)

I am also a divorcee, and this happened when my daughter was 7. She took it so hard because not only did she loose a dad, she lost step sisters too that she was use to playing with everyday. I can still see the impact it has had on her, but have tried to put all my drama aside and make sure she knows she is my number one and loved above all else. She will be 9 on thursday and very excited about her birthday party this weekend!

Just a few thoughts! Good luck, and don't be worried about whether you are "popular". Your kids will thank you later - and so will their future wives.
For your addicted son, has he done any AA or other type of sobriety support group? This might help.
