Hi,

I am a first time parent to a set of twins. I love them but they are definitely a handful at times. My husband and I are constantly getting input from our parents whether they are asked or not. When my son gets excited he raises his voice and my husband and I are trying to work with him to not give a high pitched noise but my father in law before we can say anything steps in and yells at our son. My mom is constantly tell me how I should discipline or how I should try to balance working full time and taking care of my kids full time. Even my mother in law who normally doesn't butt in tells my daughter she is a bad egg and tried to put her in the corner. We tried nicely talking to them but that lasts about a week and then they are back to it again. Does anyone have any suggestions to keep these grandparents from butting in? I feel like they are undermining me and my husband not to mention the fact these are our children not theirs. Is this common? I am just so frustrated.

I get this a lot from my mother in law. She butts in "nicely" but it drives me crazy. I exclusively breast feed my 10 month old and have only introduced some solids to him. I am very strict with my children's diet. I have a two year old and a 9 year old as well. I am their mother and what I want them to eat is up to me, no one else! I do not allow drinks other than milk or water and I do not allow my children to eat processed foods, sugary foods, ect. My mother in law always has something to say about the baby mainly. She wants to feed him food off her plate and that is a no no for me. She recently told me I need to stop nursing before my hubby and I leave for our trip to Mexico coming up in February. Well that's not for her to say.

Luckily for me I have a very supportive husband and a vocal one as well. I let him know when she says or does something that bothers me and he speaks with her. He informed her nicely that if she felt she could not handle watching the baby while we were gone because he does not take to a bottle well, then we would have someone else watch him, and that shut her up in a hurry.

Its never easy handling parents inputs, you just need to find your voice and stand up to them.
